Scientific Extended Essays investigate a focused research question using scientific theory, data and methods. All science subjects require students to work scientifically by gathering or analysing evidence and applying scientific reasoning.

investigate a scientific question
be grounded in established scientific theory
involve the collection or analysis of data
use scientific methods and reasoning
include treatment of uncertainty, reliability and validity
present results clearly using scientific conventions
evaluate limitations and conclusions
Regardless of subject, a science EE should feel like a scientific investigation, not a descriptive report.
