Individuals and Societies

Individuals and Societies subjects explore human behaviour, societies, economies, cultures and political systems. 

An Extended Essay in this group investigates a clearly defined question using the concepts, methods and evidence of the specific discipline you choose.

Although each subject has its own conventions, all I&S essays must:

• be grounded in a recognised discipline

• apply appropriate concepts, theories or models

• analyse rather than describe

• use evidence that is relevant, credible and well interpreted

• build a clear, logically developed argument

• evaluate perspectives, limitations or assumptions

• keep the research question narrow and focused

An I&S EE should feel like it truly belongs in the subject, not in science, literature or personal reflection.
